Case History

John (not his real name) was organist at a parish church for over 35 years until Parkinson’s disease forced him to retire. Unable to work, he moved into a nursing home, where all his pensionable income was paid over to the home. He receives a regular monthly allowance from the IAOBF, which allows him to buy personal necessaries, such as birthday cards, stamps etc and go on occasional outings, which have to be by taxi. The allowances give him a measure of independence which would otherwise be denied.
